Reunited DARK ANGEL To Appear On METALLICA Tribute Album

Reunited Los Angeles thrashers DARK ANGEL have been invited to contribute to a METALLICA tribute album being produced by Bob Kulick (KISS, MOTÖRHEAD, MEAT LOAF),and are currently in the studio recording their version of "Creeping Death". A late 2003 release through Cleopatra Records is expected. Complete video coverage of the recording sessions for the album will be featured on DARK ANGEL's upcoming DVD, due in 2004. Photos from September 15 session are available for viewing in the Yahoo! DARK ANGEL Fan Club at this location.

In other news, DARK ANGEL guitarist Eric Meyer recently spoke to Darksoul7.com about the group's decision to reunite and their unfortunate split with guitarist Jim Durkin a short time after the reunion was announced.

"Jim called me around September [2002]," Eric said. "He said he had some new music and he wanted me to record with him. He called [singer] Ron [Rinehart] also, and we all got together and talked about the concept of doing the reunion thing. He had contacted [drummer] Gene [Hoglan], and he was into it also. It sounded like a fucking blast to Ron and I — we'd love to go do some more touring, which was the whole premise of getting back together-gigs. Unfortunately things did not work out with Jim the way we had hoped. I heard he was using the reunion to boost his band [DREAMS OF DAMNATION] — we'll probably never know for sure. But what was sure, was that he wanted to have his band do the support slot on the 10 gigs we had booked in December. Our booking agent nixed the idea, and suddenly Jim didn't seem to have time for D.A. We were really confused by his attitude, and getting really stressed out because of the short time frame we were dealing with to get ready for the tour. Then at the top of November, Durkin decided we should cancel the tour, saying we didn't have enough time to rehearse — even though we were all aware of the timeline from the start. He didn't bother to call me until after he told our agent to cancel everything, and he still hasn't spoken to Gene regarding the whole thing. We were forced to make the hard decision to fire Jim — he left us with really no choice. I was trying to arrange some Euro tours for us in the summer, and he said he 'can't commit to anything like that, dude.' Strange stuff. I guess you just can't figure people out. It would've been great to have done the reunion with original guys, but with Jim there would've been NO touring. So we move on." Read the whole interview here.
